Fool in a Fountain

April 9, 2015

she dances like a thief stealing movement in peace

proud to be the lady in grey, in a sparkling dress

while the kids all drink themselves to forget

a good time in a swing, the fair weather in Bend

a clown marked with red paint, picking her prey

moves on to the next like a queen among slaves

shooting sense in their veins, till it all feels the same

so fathers regret making mothers in caves

such a primordial stance to make it mundane

disappear like a moth when it hides from the flame

Jackson the red tells jokes till he’s dead

looks at me with a stumble and says,

“these jokes are so dumb, you’ll laugh like a friend

I’ll brighten your night, we won’t have to pretend.”

While back on the dance floor, a jokerish manwhore

hovers over the crowd like a devilish cantor

“I’ll make you my Jesus, you’ll make me your sewage,

before we lay down, we’ll empty our fluids.”

shooting sense in their veins, till it all feels the same

so fathers regret making mothers in caves

such a primordial stance to make it mundane

disappear like a moth when it hides from the flame

Back over the mountain, a motherless father

takes the life of another, for stealing his corner

“I lost all my feeling way back in ’87

gotta break the damn law to abide by the system

gotta hustle and fight to keep from landing in prison

you forget who you are when you’re told you are nothin

I wouldn’t be here at all, unless I was bound and determined

to stay on this earth, so what’s keeping you burdened?

it wasn’t my choice, so why take all your fortune

and throw it away like a fool in a fountain

shooting sense in their veins, till it all feels the same

so fathers regret making mothers in caves

such a primordial stance to make it mundane

reappear like a moth when it chases the flame
