A few weeks ago, I got a new job as a locksmith. I drive around the city and break into peoples’ cars for them. As a result, I’ve been spending a lot of time in traffic. Portland, though a relatively small city in population, has terrible traffic. The roads are built and designed off of old mule trails. They’re mostly skinny, and the roads with four lanes within the city always have cars parked in the right lane, thus leaving only one lane each direction useful. The interstates have few exits within city limits, forcing the traffic to funnel into a cluster of stop and start madness. The interstates and everyone who owns a car in the area could really benefit from some extra lanes.

It’s funny, how people are in traffic. Closed in the comfort of our own little portable worlds; complete with entertainment systems, temperature control, handless phones…
